Our Curriculum

The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) is the learning framework used in early childhood and its aim of this document is to extend and enrich children’s learning from birth to five years; prior to entering formal schooling. The EYLF encourages educators to provide young children with learning programs that promote opportunities to maximise their potential and develop a foundation for future success in learning.

Our Philosophy

At Kids Cottage we believe that early childhood education involves having strong connections with children, their families, the team of educators, the wider community and the different learning environments that arearranged for children’s learning

Our children

We respect children as being competent, capable, active participants and as active citizens of their community. Children are empowered as they are provided with opportunities to contribute to their own experiences and learning and sharing in decisions about what they do and how they do it. Children are supported to have self confidence and skills to explore, take on new challenges, and test their theories on how the world works.

Our Families

‘We enrol a family at Kids Cottage not just the child’. This belief ensures that family feel connected and valued during their enrolment at Kids Cottage. The relationships and partnerships that we develop with a child’s family support each child’s individual learning, development and wellbeing. We actively support a sense of belonging and inclusion to all families and are respectful of each family’s culture, morals, beliefs and traditions.

Our Educators

We pride ourselves on our team having strong qualifications and experience in early childhood. We ensure that our team of educators; in terms of educator to child ratios and qualifications exceed those standards as prescribed from the Regulatory Authority. We have long term educators which ensure a high level of continuity and consistency for children and their families. All educators participate in professional learning throughout the year to ensure their knowledge and expertise remains current and up to date with contemporary research.

Our community

We advocate for children and families to have a strong sense of community and understand how they are connected to it. A strong sense of community supports a child’s sense of belonging and security. Kids Cottage recognises that as an early childhood service we can connect families to other organisations and services within the local community. Kids Cottage prides itself with its links with the wider community. We have developed strong connections where we visit local community areas and local community members visit us.

Our physical environment

The physical environment and learning spaces are constantly adapted and changed to suit the needs and interests of children. The environment complements the Kids Cottage philosophy; supporting children to have a strong sense of being and belonging, as well as facilitating their growth and development. Learning environments are arranged to ensure functionality whilst providing open ended resources that promote children’s curiosity and stimulate their thinking. Educators, children and families are supported to consider environmentally sustainable practices when creating learning environments.
