Your Child’s First Day
At Kids Cottage Early Years Learning Centre we understand just how hard it may be to leave your child in a new setting. In collaboration with families, we have created some helpful tips to ease the anxiety and transition into starting at our centre. These include;
Familiarise your child with our service, use our enrolment/orientation process as the opportunity for your child to see their new room, meet our educators and see all the exciting play and learning that takes place.- Create a routine with your child, which lets them know that you are leaving, such as a kiss or cuddle, letting them know you will be back.
- Advise our educators about your home routines, what comforts your child, what your child finds distressing so that we can work in collaboration to best meet the needs of your child.
- Feel free to contact the service through the day and speak directly to your child’s educator to find out about how your child has settled into their day.
- When you collect your child, discuss with our educators about how your child’s day was, which can be later built upon with your child through positive discussions and play in your home environment.
Settling into a new place takes time. Feeling confident, calm and positive throughout arrival and collection times with your child will help your child to develop greater security.
